The location of a horror movie is greatly important to the movie as it creates the atmosphere and adds immensely to the tension of the scenes. One way that the location can add to the horror of the movie is through the location choice being somewhere relatable, this would add to the horror aspect of the film as after seeing the film the audience will see similar objects/areas and associate them instantly with what happened in the movie.
Depending on the sub-genre of the horror movie the location will greatly change, for example if it is going to be a poltergeist movie then a house or inside a building will be a suitable location as there are plenty of objects and props to move around in order to create a horror effect. However if it was in a forest or somewhere very desolate then there would be a minimal amount of scenes you can get out of a poltergeist.
Based on this we have decided that we will film on the hill and in the trees near our school. There are many reasons why we have decided to film our trailer here. One being that it is location that conforms with the slasher stereotype which is effective to use in our trailer as we know that this will work well in creating a scary atmosphere. We have also decided that we will film in there as with the use of editing we can make the area look dark and mysterious which will of course add to the horror aspect of the location. In our trailer we also specify that the forest has a dangerous character within therefore our audience will constantly be on edge as he could come out at any time.

Our Location
One of our locations is a passage in the forest where we will have the killer / crazed man in the woods running at us. This will be a key location as it signifies a point of change within the film and traps the main characters in an area of uncertainty. This creates the idea that the characters are in immediate danger. Overall this makes the audience fear for the characters as they're in an enclosed forest; this situation can also be relatable due to the majority of the audience being around that age or have been the same age and will remember the exploring factors and mindset they would have had.
Another location is the lane leading to the start of the hill; this is where we see all of the cast discussing what they're going to 'explore' this also signifies the beginning of the vlog. This location gives an innocence effect on the audience making the lads look very normal, again making the audience feel safe and relax.

This is the archway location we decided to use; this is an integral point in our trailer as at this point the chase begins and it is clear that Dave is out to kill the other actors and he is 'the man in the woods' that the group were looking for. We believe this was a good location to use as it can clearly show a stand off between the two characters. |
We also used the area of trees on the school grounds as another location as not only did this look the same as the forest location but the leaves on the floor were a lot more crispy as oppose to wet so when walking on them a scarier atmosphere was created. Along with this we used this location to film the shots where people were led on the floor to save people from getting too wet from filming as if we filmed on another day it may not have been as wet therefore the continuity would not have looked very good.
