Wes Craven was born on 2nd August 1939 in Cleveland, Ohio in the United States and died on 30th August 2015. He was a film director, writer and producer as well as an actor who was well renowned for his work in horror films, particularly slashers.
His theory was that the most devastating and terrifying things should happen in the safest places. As a result of this he saw people's homes and hospitals as the ideal locations for horrors as people feel protected there and are therefore unnerved as it provides the idea that no-one is ever safe anywhere. However even though they are the 'safe places' he believed they should be secluded and away from everything else as if it were to be in a busy environment then there is less of a realism to the film as people would be able to tell that something was going on.
