Google trends
With Google trends we can search a word to find the popularity of it and as you can see this graph of Google trends shows how the horror genre, which is the genre that our film will be created around, has only really started to be talked about from 2007 where it began to increase. You can see with the steep inclines that the amount of interest in the genre goes up which is down to an influx of successful horror films.
The graph below shows the google trends of slasher films which is the sub genre that we have chosen to base our opening title sequence on. As you can see there is a steady incline from 2004 to 2016 with a sharp increase from around June 2011 to January 2012; this is because of a large amount of successful slasher films being released at these times. For example Scream 4, the Cabin in the Woods, Wrong Turn 4 and You're next were all released in 2011 which were popular films that caused the increase in slasher films trending.

Below is a world map used to show the interest in slasher films in different countries and as shown a lot of the interest is in Eurasian countries as well as in the United States. This shows that our target audience would be Eurasian countries as this is where slashers are searched for the most and will thus make the film as successful as possible.
