We think this horror movie poster is effective because it casts a silhouette as a mysterious figure which is a stereotypical horror theme so immediately the people looking at the poster know what genre to expect. Also they have used a monochrome background with a bright purple title in order to make it stand out as it is the main focus. Also as 'The Exorcist' is quite a sadistic title therefore they will want to make the audience pay a lot of attention to it. Finally, the light in the poster is being directed from the house which shows that whatever is happening in the film is going to be from that house. |
The main focus of this poster is on the face written on the wall in what looks like blood. This alone has connotations of evil as well as the stereotypical young girl smearing the blood which single handedly represents that the girl in this film is going to be the main horror point. This is further shown by what she is wearing and how she appears. For example she has her face hidden by her hair which shows that she is a dark character and despite the usual connotations of children this child is not going to be innocent.

This poster is effective as they have made sure the main focus is the main character, Daniel Radcliffe. This will entice people into seeing the film as Daniel Radcliffe is a very well known actor and is well respected for being in successful films therefore if people recognise that he is the film and they like him as an actor they are more likely to want to see the film. This film is also set in the past which can be represented by the use of or the lack of colour. The time period this film is set in is also represented by Daniel Radcliffe's attire as he is wearing old fashioned clothes. As well as the main actor, there is also a dark character in the background who could potentially be identified as 'The Woman In Black'. Along with this, the slogan of the film under this title, 'Fear Her Curse', represents the dark character as being the evil character in this film which shows the audience what sort of film this is and also gives a slight indication of the sort of horror it will be.

This poster is very effective, especially as a result of the colours that have been used; for example the use of white on the persons face represents innocence but also vulnerability which immediately represents this person as being the victim therefore from the poster alone the audience can indicate that this is the victim. They have also used a black treeline along with a light sky to represent that where she is is dark which has the connotation of being a dangerous place. As well as this there is a red image of a person in the background. Red can often be related to the idea of death, blood and danger and the fact that it is in a dark forest behind an innocent person suggests that whatever it is in the forest is what is going to put this person in danger and is the basis of this horror. Along with this the red stands out from the bland, monotone colours in the poster which may represent the potential importance of whatever the red character is in the film. |
